Default The incredible shrinking house

The incredible shrinking house

Soaring fuel costs, environmental concerns and aging baby boomers mean the American dream home is a lot smaller than it used to be.

I haven't read the article yet but around particularly northern San Antonio, the houses are big and staying big. Several neighborhoods are still seeing many HUGE houses. Makes me sick. I knew it was a matter of time until we started seeing smaller houses. 'Bout time in my opinion!

I agree, I have not seen or noticed the trend here yet either but the economy in Texas is still pretty strong at the moment. I think we will start seeing this here within the next few years though.

I have been advising clients that if they plan on being in their new house for a long time it will be in their best interest to keep it small.

I actually teach and would like to push the concept that Susanka has - "The Not So Big House".

Did you hear about what Austin is trying to do? It's not law yet but they're trying to get it that if you're going to be selling your house that you must bring it up to Austin Green Standards?! I understand what they're trying to do but not everyone can afford it. Yet, anyways.

I did a quick search for this topic and didn't get any hits. It seems like such a controversial proposal as this would be generating a lot of discussion.

I don't see how it would be feasible to implement such a requirement so I don't see how it would ever happen. It makes me wonder if this is just some wild rumor.

Wow just read the article. Yep, I've been preaching/teaching exactly what it says. Sarah was even mentioned. Gotta get ahold of her somehow. I am a HUGE believer in downsizing. These KB style 2800+sq ft McMansions are out of control and a huge waste of resources. Makes me sick to see some of these monstrosities. Many don't even look good to begin with. It's all about bragging rights.

I teach in the area I'm talking about and the kids follow in their parents footsteps - see who can waste the most.
